Oshooronga Iyami

Iyami Oshooronga is the queen of the cult of sorcery. His followers are the sorcerers and witches, which can be white, red and black, which can be good, bad or fair. They make up the worship of witchcraft and are known as Ajogún or Ajonjún, Dignitaries of the night, Senior night.

They also named Aje Awon Iyami (my mother) or Eyela Eniyan or when they appear in the form of birds. In the region of Benin are referred to as Oghhudian Oshooronga Iyami or yason or Iquenromo.

It is believed that this is the Oloddumare world, the Creator of the world is good and that He wants man to have the best of life, therefore, if there are obvious elements of evil, there must be also some factors responsible for this breakdown of orderly and uniform flow of life. So introducing witchcraft to explain the misfortunes. When the social and domestic life anxieties and tensions arise when things go according to plan, when there is infertility, sterility, depression or misery, terrible accidents, premature death, failure in business, studies and other activities, Africans blame witchcraft. Thus, issues that otherwise would have been difficult to explain, are a simple justification.

The Yoruba have the belief that witches have some birds that produce a distinctive squeak when they fly in the middle of the night on their way to the Garlic (meeting place). Seniors who are outside their homes or who are still awake within these, generally address the bird saying: kiioso pe ki ma ode Orisa or of, bi ti ba wara ko eni, Onair o! " One can not decree that hunters Orishas (deities) do not hunt, provided that they do not hunt our close neighbor, a good trip! "

This is a way to pray to the witches who do not do any damage to that plea. Also shows that people believe that witches are terrible ones and constitute a source of fear for humans. As hunters go on expeditions, witches come out in mission to search for people who can destroy, so they say.

Aje wool ke
Oven lonii ku;
Ta mo sai pe child
Aje sa je pa ana what?

The bird of the witch cried last night
the child died today;
Who does not know
the witch shrill last night
which killed the child?

The study of the deity Iyami Ochooronga through the stories of Ifa literary body help us to understand more deeply what is really the worship of witchcraft, how and why it operates and how human beings can get rid of its influence.

According to Ifa poses the only force or divinity that can overcome the strength of witchcraft is the Soil / Earth.

The oath proposed by Orichanlá Orúnmila and the witches, was taken against the wanton destruction of human lives. This tells us why witches have no power to destroy the true children of Oloddumare, as well as devoted followers Orúnmila.

The LFA Odu Osa Meyi tells us why they do not kill anyone unless the person is opposed to the oath taken between Orishanlá, Orunmila and sorcerers (witches).

The wizards (sorcerers) do not kill any man who really act according to the distinctive characteristics and taboos Oloddumare proclaimed by the Almighty.

Orúnmila revealed that originally the sorcerers (witches) were more concerned that mortals lay. They were human beings who first offended by killing his only son.

Turns out the witch, lyamí Oshooronga, and profane, Ogbori, came as sisters to the world at the same time. The profane had ten children, while the witch only had one. One day the profane was the only market available at that time, called Eye Ajigbomekon Akira. This was located on the border between Heaven and Earth. The inhabitants of Heaven and Earth used to trade in common.

As for the market would profane, Oshooronga Iyami asked to care for her ten children during her absence. The witch looked after children in the profane with care and nothing happened to any of them. Then came the turn of the witch to go to market and asked his sister to take care of her only son while he was absent.

Iyami Oshooronga When he left, the ten boys from the profane were interested in killing a bird to eat. Ogbori told his boys that if they wanted the meat of the bird, she would go into the bush to hunt birds for eating, but should not touch the only son of the witch.

While her mother was on the bushes, the ten boys conspired and killed the only son of the witch, and roasted his flesh to eat. According Ogbori ten boys were killing the son of the witch, the supernatural power of the last gave the signal that things around the house was not right. He quickly withdrew his trip to the market and returned home only to discover that his son had been killed.

Was understandably upset when her sister went to the market, she took pains to care for her ten children, but had not a scratch, but when it came time to go to the market, her sister could not take care of her only child. She wept bitterly and decided to pick up and leave the house where he lived with his sister.

They had a brother who came to the world at the same time, but preferred to live in the woods because they do not want to be bothered by anyone. This was Iroko. When the witch Iroko heard crying, he invited her to tell him what was happening and she explained how the children of his sister Ogbori killed his only son without his mother was able to stop them.

Iroko consoled her and assured him that from that moment on, they must feed Ogbori boys. It was from that day, with the help of Iroko, the Witch began to catch the boys from the profane, one by one.

Orúnmila intervened to stop the witch in the destruction of all the boys from the profane. It was he who begged Iroko and the witch, and asked them what they would agree to stop killing children in the profane mortals.

Thus Orúnmila introduced the sacrifice of (Etutu) offering to the Night, which carries a rabbit, eggs, good amount of oil and other edible items.

As Eshu, we can not antagonize the witches without adequacy. Just try to know through divination (see) what we can offer to seek its support in it and when they are given the elements that demand sacrifice, often come off one's back. Those who do not understand this aspect of human existence. Are the ones who easily fall victims of witchcraft.

Oloddumare himself proclaimed that the soil (OTA Olé), should be the only force that would destroy any witch or divinity trasgrediere any natural laws. This decree was proclaimed as a powerful witch doctor called Sky Eye to Orun qu yu Oke was committed to the destruction of the earthly deities because of their evil behavior on Earth.

We also see that the power exercised by the Ancients of the Night, was given by Oloddumare at the time lived free Oloddumare and physically with the gods. A witches were given the exclusive power to keep the vigil every time Oloddumare was taking her bath, just before the cock crows. Oloddumare was forbidden to see naked. A witch's divinity was the only one who gave him that authority. Sometimes the deity witch gave the signal to the cock that Oloddumare had taken his bath, after which the cock crowed for the first time in the morning ...

Oloddumare not, however, left the rest of creation hopelessly at the mercy of the Elders of the Night.

Through the Oche Osa odduara Orúnmila reveal how Oloddumare expected of us who protegiéramos against the powers of witchcraft.

There was a beautiful girl in the palace of Oloddumare, who was prepared to marry. Oggún, Orúnmila Ozain and were interested in the girl. Oloddumare agreed to hand over the girl in marriage to any fan to prove himself worthy of his hand. The test to be performed as an eligibility to take the hand of the girl was a yam harvest divine farm without breaking it, a seemingly simple task.

Oggún was the first to volunteer to run the task. He went to the farm and uprooted the yams. According to him out, this split, which clearly dropped his candidacy.

Ozain was the next to try his luck. The ending also with the same experience.

It was his turn to Orúnmila to go to the farm. He did not move directly to the farm. Decided to know why those that preceded it failed and what to do to succeed. It was a guess, during which he was told that none of them knew it, had appointed Oloddumare Elders of the Night, to monitor the divine estate. For this reason, they were responsible for the conspiracy that the yams are uprooted from leaving.

He was told that entertain with razupo beans, corn bread and cold nature all grocery items, and a large rabbit, and deposit the entertainment on the farm at night. Consequently he executed the sacrifice at night. That night, all trustees of the estate held the food divine. On the same night, Orunmila had a dream in which the witches sent someone to tell him not to go to the farm the next day.

He had to go the next day, the next day, the witch placed a heavy downpour in order to soften the soil.

After all witches took a solemn oath not to avert the yam Orúnmila to be split. On the third day Orúnmila went to the farm and yam successfully uprooted and brought it to Oloddumare, who immediately gave the girl in marriage.

Through research, it has come to discover that they belong to a cosmological field, has earned them the name of Elders and owners of the Night. From Osa Meyi odu, they came to settle in the world and became powerful. So much so that you may submit any other deity. They can derail the efforts of all other deities to stop them due consideration.

This research also shows they are not as bad as in many cases the paint. Like all groups of heavenly and earthly bodies, there are sorcerers (witches) benevolent and malevolent.

Probably, they conduct the most fair system of justice. They do not condemn without fair and accurate test. If someone approaches them with an accusation against anyone, consider all sides before making a decision.

The Oche oddus Meyi Osa Osa and tell us how witches came to the world and how it dominated all the gods.

We will also see from Ogbe odduara Irosun how men of lie once decided to antagonize the witches, as a result of which the witches were removed to the town of rainfall or Ilu Omuo Eley outside Ife.

From his new residence, the witch decided to depopulate Ife killing the inhabitants one by one. After Ife had lost many of its sons and daughters, the elders decided to fight a war on the people of Eley. All troops sent to fight never came back alive. All other deities were contacted to salvage the situation, but their efforts were neutralized by the superior ability of the witches of Omuo.

Finally, Orunmila was declared by public divination to be the only one capable of engaging with women. As soon as he was contacted for the job, he made the necessary sacrifices and instead of Ilu Omuo contact with his troops, he was dancing with a procession, which fully danced in the village. When the women saw a long procession of brightly dressed men and women dancing in town with melodious music, they realized it was time to return home in Ife.

After they knew what was happening, they all returned to Ife and there was a general reconciliation and joy.

Again, this incident clearly illustrates that it is not easy to overcome the forces of witchcraft through aggression without resorting to a higher authority. The easiest way to deal with them is through appeasement.

Orúnmila not solve any problem using confrontation unless all means of conciliation have failed. However, sometimes he goes for help to the aggressive deities make them dirty work. The deity is very patient. The states that can only react after being offended thirty times and notwithstanding this, it takes him at least three years to be offended after giving the offender ample opportunity for repentance.
